Ricky Punzalan
I am a doctoral candidate in archives and museum studies at the University of Michigan's School of Information. I also hold a certificate of graduate studies in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) . I am completing a dissertation that engages with the challenges of virtual reunification as a strategy to assemble a set of ethnographic photographs taken in the U.S. colonial Philippines. Part of my study is to examine the historical diffusion of photographs associated with Dean C. Worcester, a colonial administrator from 1899 to 1913. I am tracing efforts since the 1970s to unify the Worcester photographs, particularly the ethics and issues involved in recent projects to undertake a multi-institutional, cooperative digital edition that will provide comprehensive access to the collection. In January 2013, I will join the faculty of the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland as an assistant professor.
